Title: Saving June
Author: Hannah Harrington
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
‘If she’d waited less than two weeks, she’d be June who died in June. But I guess my sister didn’t consider that.’
Harper Scott’s older sister has always been the perfect one so when June takes her own life a week before her high school graduation, sixteen-year-old Harper is devastated. Everyone’s sorry, but no one can explain why.
When her divorcing parents decide to split her sister’s ashes into his-and-her urns, Harper takes matters into her own hands. She’ll steal the ashes and drive cross-country with her best friend, Laney, to the one place June always dreamed of going California.
Enter Jake Tolan. He’s a boy with a bad attitude, a classic-rock obsession and nothing in common with Harper’s sister. But Jake had a connection with June, and when he insists on joining them, Harper’s just desperate enough to let him. With his alternately charming and infuriating demeanour and his belief that music can see you through anything, he might be exactly what she needs.
Except June wasn’t the only one hiding something. Jake’s keeping a secret that has the power to turn Harper’s life upside down again.
June is dead leaving Harper to pick up the pieces that her sister left behind. Dumb founded by June’s decision to commit suicide, Harper found herself devastated without knowing how she’ll move forward after her sister’s death. Unnoticed by both parents, Harper is June’s complete opposite in every possible way.
Together with her bestfriend Laney and a mysterious Jake, Harper decided to travel across America for her sisters ashes – a mission not only for her sisters sake but also for Harpers sanity and salvation against the turmoil of a devastating event in her life.
I really became emotional reading Saving June. It’s a great read, awesome story plus the characters are very likeable all the way. Harper is not your model teen – she’s very unstabble and emotional but a definite survivor. Laney is your ever loyal bestfriend who sometimes irritates you but you can count on her through the end. Plus a super hot guy to chaperone you through the journey. What’s not to love about that? And ohh take note – Harper and Jake’s relationship is not your usual insta-love kind of thing which makes this story super super awesome! I may have not experience the grief of losing someone like June but Harrington wrote this book superbly that I felt all the emotions she wanted to convey to her readers and that my friends is what makes this book worth the read and recommendation.
